Practice time!

Today Isabell and I ventured out of the house to go visit my friend, Katie, and her 5 day old little boy, Jackson.  Isabell has been practicing for the past week to say his name, but the best we get is “Gack!”, which is cute all on it’s own.  She did such a good job with him today, sat quietly while Katie helped her hold him, kissed him on the head and the toes (even tickled his toes and belly laughed about it).  She did a wonderful job, right up until I tried to hold Jackson.  Then she got VERY jealous and tried to climb up in my lap and had a really really hard time letting me hold him.  After telling her I needed to be gentle with him too, she sat very nicely in Katie’s lap next to us, and waited.  When I gave Jacks to his dad to say good bye, Isabell jumped so high, and landed in my lap.  She saw her opening for mom’s lap and she took it!!  It was very sweet, and she was very careful, pointing out his eyes, and ears, and toes and elbows.  Practice makes perfect, lets hope she’s that easy with her own baby sibling when she gets one!

Enjoy a few pictures of her first little baby experience.

Isabell’s word list

Every day we hear a new word or two.  The last few days she has been working on varigating her vowels (i.e. mommy instead of mama) and making words more clear.  Here is a list of the words we hear her using now:

up, down, in, out, on, off, hot, Mommy, Daddy, baby, ball, “Lalala” (our favorite book), bubble, hello, cracker, cookie, car, “arf”, moon, more, hi, bye, no, yeah, “Niue” (our soon to be sibling), sit, go, bottle, dot, help, duck, boat, water, juice, noodle, yogurt, toast, thank you, boo (our favorite  stuffed toy), bowl, bib, uh-oh, wow.

In addition, she has a bunch of signs (though she’s starting to use words  for her signs).  She also uses some animal sounds (meow, moo, quack, “fishy sound”) and automobile sounds (i.e. car, airplane) when playing.

I am sure there are others I am missing.  She continues to amaze us every day.  She is no longer our little baby, but is getting to be our very big girl!

15 months old and still growing…

Nashon and I took Miss Isabell to see the doctor this morning for her 15 month old well child check.  Things are looking good!  She is still getting bigger every day, but seems to finally be thinning out a bit.  Here are her stats for the day:

Head Circumference: 19 inches, 97th percentile

Weight: 24 pounds 13.5 ounces, 80th percentile

Length: 32.25 inches, 95th percentile

Our little girl did such a good job.  She was happy and babbling, and looked at the doctor with a little bit of concern when he was listening to her heart and checkign her  out.  She cried when she saw the needles for her flu shot and an immunization, and she tried to get up.  But as soon as the bandaid was on, she shook her finger at the nurse and said “no thank you!” then snuggled in for a hug from Nashon.  All in all, it wasn’t a bad visit, and we were out very quickly!

And now for something different….

Some horrible puns that I found and just loved:

“I have a mitral valve prolapse,” said Tom brokenheartedly.
“We are going to turn this ship left twice in a row!” Tom reported.
“I guess I lose this round. But hey, you know what they say,” replied Tom winsomely.
“What fools these mortals be,” said Tom puckishly.
“Better close up the windows; it looks like there’s a storm coming,” said Tom, shuddering.
“I’ll never thank you for that croissant!” said Tom mercilessly.
“Dustin Diamond is the greatest actor ever!” Tom screeched.
“I really enjoy this one section of Highlights for Children,” Tom said gallantly.
“What do you call a fat monarch?” asked Tom unthinkingly.
“The executioner aimed way too low,” Tom said defeatedly.
“Admittedly it is important to learn the alphabet,” Abie ceded.
“Will you still love me when I take over the government?” Tom cooed.
“I wonder which road I should take…?” thought Tom frostily.
“I haven’t answered questions in a fan chat-room since I was on Night Court,” Markie posted.
“I will only say ‘Fee’ and ‘Fo’,” said the giant defiantly.
“Thank God we converted to metric,” Tom expounded.
“Why do you need two signatures?” asked Tom resignedly.
“I have exactly six beers,” said Tom brutally.
“You got some ‘splainin’ to do,” Tom said lucidly.
“Death to windmills”, Don said quixotically.
“Just dump it anywhere”, Tom said literally.
“I’m wearing my wedding ring,” said Tom with abandon.
“I slipped and drank a beer thirty-nine days in, so I’m starting all over again,” Tom relented.
“That tuna just saved our planet,” said Tom superficially.
“The Skipper died,” Tom exhaled.
“I thought about buying a house, but decided it was too risky for me,” Tom said preferentially.
“My last girlfriend is doing sound effects work now” Tom exfoliated.
“But what was the cause of death?” asked Tom, wide-eyed.
“I got this ball-point pen from a Yugoslav friend,” said Tom acerbically.
“I have frosted the treepeople,” said Tom enticingly.
“I wish to court your living room,” said Tom woodenly.
“27.34 grains!” exclaimed Tom dramatically.
“Women’s suffrage was a mistake,” said Tom devotedly.
“This weighs precisely 480 grains,” Tom announced.
“I need a breath mint,” Tom asserted.
“F=MA,” Tom said forcefully.
“And so there I was, surrounded by a quartet of grizzlies!” said Tom, with forbearance.
“The giant insects were shocking at first, but we’ve learned to live with Them,” said Tom tolerantly.
“I am here with my friend Hamlet,” said Tom with disdain.
“I dropped my toothpaste,” said Tom, crestfallen.

Walking in the rain…

Welcome back too a Seattle winter.  It’s somewhere in the mid 40s, and it’s raining.  Sometimes I get really tired of the rain, but this year I have enjoyed it.  However, as Isabell gets bigger and bigger, I am more motivated to get out of the house for at least a few minutes a day.  Today we put her in her mostly water proof pants and headed down to the little kid park (climbing and slides, that’s about it).  The joy of this particular park is that there is never anyone there, and it’s not very fun for big kids, so there is never big kids around to ruin the 1 year old’s fun.  Isabell, however, decided she didn’t want to do much playing today, and just kept reaching and saying “upupup!” in her best “do it now!” voice.  So we skipped the park and just took a walk in the rain.  Here are a few cute pictures from our outing today.

Tales of Miss Isabell…

Well, Isabell has learned that presents can be opened to find something inside.  While we’ve managed to not have all of the presents under the tree come magically unwrapped, she is very interested in helping everyone else open presents!  She rips the paper, and then pulls on it until the toy comes out.  Right now, she is downstairs helping Nashon wrap a present (for me, I think.  Hence me not being the one to wrap it like I did all the others).  Anyway, back to tales of Isabell…..

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful little girl who refused to go down for a nap.  She stayed in her bed very nicely for about 30 minutes, but just “did a job” instead of sleeping.  She called her to parents when she was ready to get out of bed, “dada!!  dada!! dada!! mama!! mama!”.  Her parents, silly adults that they are, decided that if Isabell was going to see Santa on this day, they would have to go now, as she wouldn’t likely go down for another nap until it was too late to go to the mall.  So Isabell and her parents get all packed up and head off to the North Pole to visit Santa and have a picture taken. Only it turns out that her parents great thought of going to the mall midday on a Monday was better than trying to go on a weekend wasn’t quite true.  Just as Isabell and her parents got to the line of children waiting to see Santa, he went on a milk and cookie break.  So Isabell and her daddy went to get lunch while her mommy held their spot in line for the hour that Santa was away.  When he came back, it was another 45 minutes before Isabell could see him.  She was excited!  She had spent the last hour watching other kids sit on his lap, she waved to him and blew him kisses, and even tried to get to him by going in the “exit” to his picture set.  When it came time to actually sit on his knee, Isabell was VERY tired (from having had no nap), and was a bit apprehensive about this jolly old man wearing red and blue.  Her mommy slipped Santa some marshmellows (a current favorite treat of Miss Isabell) to entice her to stay there.  Santa felt the need to tell Isabell’s mommy that with the marshmellows in her mouth, Isabell wouldn’t be able to smile for the camera.  Her mommy pointed out that if her mouth was full, she couldn’t cry either; Santa just lauged.  But it worked!  She screamed the moment she was put down, and only stopped crying to eat the marshmellows.  Despite her lack of desire to be near the old man that was feeding her marshmellows, the elves managed to get a pretty cute picture.  See for yourselves!!!  Though Isabell didn’t use any words to tell Santa what she wanted for Christmas, her mommy and daddy feel that she wants a new car to go with those keys she won’t let go of!  Isabell crashed in the car about 5 minutes before she got home, and slept through changing her diaper and taking off her clothes.

All in all, it wasn’t nearly as bad as her mommy and daddy thought it would be.  She really is a sweet child.  So many people commented “oh, she’s just so cute!”

Day late and a dollar short.

I know that ya’ll have been bugging me for pictures from Isabell’s birthday, and yes, I know that I still haven’t put them up.  Nashon and I left the photo taking to family members, and while some of them have given us photos, they are all on CDs, and I don’t have a CD rom in this comptuer.  Lame excuse, I know, but truth none the less.  So to try and make ya’ll a little bit happier, I have posted her one year old photos from the studio.  They were taken ON her birthday, and she was quite happy and had a hard time giving up the little chair in the studio.

Happy viewing, and I am still going to pretend I’ll post the cake pictures.  Blame the lack of video on Nashon though!  Videos are his job!
