Aquarium: Reef Inhabitants
With some fantastic luck, a local fish store worker has decided to get out of the hobby because his course work is enormous this next quarter. We stopped by his house and picked up some rock from him. He also sold us a Diamondback Goby and all the snails and hermits we could carry. A real bonus was some Pulsing Xenia. Its a great addition.
This is the tank after adding in 15 lbs of rock. All of our new critters are floating for awhile to acclimatize themselves.
This is a fuzzy picture of our Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. Hes pretty small, maybe 2 inches long. He's fearless. If you have your hand near him he will jump on it and start cleaning you.
Here he is eating Mysis shrimp from my roomates hand.
This is the Diamondback Goby. Her name is Marilyn and shes already chosen a den under a leaning rock. within 5 minutes of being put in she was in this spot. She started excavating her cave pretty quick.
This is the next morning after the sand storm she cause had settled. She slept in that spot all night.
Bubba has chosen this spot for his cleaner station. He never seems to stray far and is constantly dancing around. Above him you can see the Xenia. Under our actinic lights it has some nice coloration. Its fascinating to watch. Each of its hands are constantly opening and closing catching food from the water column.

This is Snoop Dogg. He's a massive Trochus snail. A good 2 inches across. You can see two other snails hanging onto him. Below is a picture of one of our sea cucumbers. This one is a great sand cleaner. You can see behind him lumps of sand that he's eaten recently. |
